Like Frank Sinatra sang in his “Rat Pack” days: I got the surprise of my life – in Chicago, the 2019 edition of the Chicago Architecture Biennial is preparing to surprise, engage and educate through conversations with architects, spatial practitioners and the world at large.

Chicago, a city that has been shaped by a myriad of cultures and planetary forces, is a prism for examining multiple narratives from different geographies and histories. The exhibition’s theme of …and other such stories focuses on the exchange of ideas and strategies that offer new viewpoints that address the urgent and shifting conditions of our societies and the built environment.
The specific topics for exploring the practice of architecture and the production of space globally will include:
- No Land Beyond: Reflects on ideas that challenge the definition of property
- Appearances and Erasures: Explores the memory and politics of contested spaces
- Rights and Reclamations: Investigates space, human rights and nature
