Lulie Fisher Design Studio Completes a Penthouse in the Intercontinental Dubai Marina
Perched on the 38th floor of the InterContinental Hotel, Dubai Marina, this Penthouse refurbishment reimagines a dated three-bedroom suite into a luxurious, contemporary residence in the sky. The client, seeking a refined home-away-from-home, commissioned a transformation that would merge high-end hospitality finishes with a sense of personal comfort and warmth.
The completed Penthouse Suite delivers on the brief through a harmonious fusion of theatrical design, functional comfort, and hospitality-grade finishes the interior reveals a curated, eclectic narrative—one that responds to the apartment’s panoramic Marina views while offering an immersive experience of tactile richness and visual delight.
The transformation began with a strategic reconfiguration of the layout by opening the study and kitchen to the living and dining areas to promote flow and connection. This created an expansive open-plan zone is now anchored by full-height window on three sides, which bathe the interiors in natural light and frame breathtaking vistas. Here, bold gestures are balanced with intimate details.
The Cassina Soriana lounger anchors a relaxed seating area paired with plush armchairs, rich joinery, and brass accents. Playful lighting and glowing accessorised shelving contribute layers of depth and softness, while the colour palette—of botanical greens punctuated by red—infuses energy and vibrancy. The material selection celebrates contrast and cohesion as bold design gestures are tempered with tactile softness and was pivotal to elevating the guest experience. White Beauty marble, fluted glass, and quilted velvet combine with warm timber and satin brass to create a tactile and refined interior. Each surface has been chosen not only for its aesthetic value but also for the sensory experience it provides, elevating everyday living through touch, reflection, and light.
In the master suite, understated opulence prevails. A pale grey quilted leather headboard set against a sage green botanical wallcovering introduces serenity and sophistication. The space includes a generous walk-in wardrobe and dedicated dressing area, enhancing the feeling of indulgence. The ensuite bathroom is a private sanctuary featuring intricate tessellated stone flooring, a freestanding tub by the window, and a softly illuminated fluted glass vanity wall. Matte black fixtures punctuate the softness with a contemporary edge.
Sustainability was embedded from the outset. Working within the existing structural envelope helped reduce demolition waste and preserved embodied carbon. Where possible, materials were sourced locally and fabricated nearby, supporting regional craftsmanship and reducing transport emissions. Natural light was maximised through the open layout and energy-efficient systems, including dimmable LED fixtures, were specified to lower energy consumption without compromising atmosphere. Throughout the apartment, the layering of materials and forms ensures the space feels cohesive yet dynamic.
The penthouse succeeds in transforming a once-outdated apartment into a refined, personality-filled residence in the sky. It reflects the client’s desire for an elevated urban retreat that balances high design with the intimacy of home. The result is a sensorial, story-rich space that resonates with the energy of Dubai Marina while offering moments of stillness, beauty, and warmth.
