Waldorf Astoria restoration offers chance of iconic home ownership for first time

Iconic New York building will feature 375 private residences, including The Towers.

A global icon, the Waldorf Astoria New York occupies a full city block between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue, East 49th Street and East 50th Street, in Midtown Manhattan. The largest and tallest building in the world when it opened in 1931, the Waldorf Astoria is today surrounded by world-class architecture, landmarks, museums and parks.

Exterior

The building is being fully restored into a collection of 375 private condominium residences positioned above a 375-key hotel. The main architect on the project, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), is perhaps best known in the Middle East as the firm that designed Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

The development of the property will offer, for the first time, the chance to own a home at one of the most celebrated addresses in the world, with best-in-class amenities and services emblematic of the legendary Waldorf Astoria. Sales are set to launch in Q1 2020.

Entrance

As New York City’s largest private interior landmark, the restoration of Waldorf Astoria New York will see a number of key heritage spaces returned to the original 1931 design. Many legendary artefacts will be returning to the property, including a piano which once belonged to Cole Porter, and the 1893 World’s Fair Clock.
