Suzhou Serenity

Where Living Divani shapes spaces of light, calm, and harmony

Nestled in the historic heart of Suzhou near the Humble Administrator’s Garden, a 1,000 m² residence unfolded as a contemporary dialogue with the timeless language of Jiangnan gardens. Designed by Sun Yuanliang, the home was conceived as a spatial narrative rather than a singular architectural gesture, unfolding through a sequence of courtyards that gradually descended in depth. These open voids allowed nature to permeate the house, drawing light, wind, bamboo shadows, and the quiet rhythm of water into daily life and establishing a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior.

The project was rooted in the desire to translate the spirit of Suzhou’s historic gardens into a modern living environment. Architecture and landscape were interwoven, creating moments of pause and transition that guided movement through the house while framing ever-changing views of greenery and sky. Within this immersive setting, Living Divani furnishings played a fundamental role, shaping comfort, proportions, and the perceptual quality of the spaces.

The living area, overlooking a large internal garden, became the heart of the residence. Here, an Extrasoft composition was arranged as a series of independent islands. Its informal structure, generous softness, and dynamic modularity encouraged both convivial gatherings and quiet contemplation, allowing the space to adapt naturally to the rhythms of everyday life.

Along the side wall, the Off Cut bookcase introduced a sculptural presence. Its precise geometries, derived from a careful process of subtraction, interacted with the bamboo shadows cast through expansive glass walls, creating a subtle graphic dialogue that evolved throughout the day. Nearby, the Islands sideboard defined a more intimate comfort zone, its slender proportions andrestrained elegance reinforcing the home’s minimalist language while maintaining functional clarity.

In the sleeping area, the Extrasoft Bed echoed the same principle of relaxed comfort. Its gentle volumes transformed the bedroom into a contemplative retreat, where the stillness of the surrounding gardens found a natural resonance.

Throughout the residence, Living Divani products functioned as instruments of spatial harmony, balancing lightness, formal rigor, and sensorial comfort, and shaping a home where nature became an extension of the interior.
