Wave: The New Mediterranean Haven in Dubai

IDST’s design invites exploration with a thoughtful blend of artisanal craftsmanship and contemporary style.

Wave is an all-day dining destination that reimagines the soul of the Mediterranean through a lens of bold expression and layered materiality. Bathed in natural light and alive with sculptural rhythm, the space unfolds gradually an ever-changing landscape of texture, form, and warmth.

From the moment guests step inside, they are immersed in a tactile environment designed to feel both transportive and deeply rooted. Sculpted wall lights, ceramic lamps, and handcrafted vases are arranged with quiet intention, each one contributing to the overall choreography of the interior. The atmosphere shifts gently throughout the day from a serene, sunlit calm to a lively, glowing vibrancy as evening arrives.

The design concept is built on a dialogue between two distinct sensibilities: the relaxed, sun-drenched charm of Mediterranean living and the bold, expressive geometry of Memphis design.

These influences coexist in a play of contrasts soft against structured, curved against linear, natural against graphic. Together, they create a dynamic rhythm that flows across the space, uniting materials, colours, and patterns in a seamless visual story.

The material palette anchors this rhythm. Polished marble, raw ceramics, natural wood, and layered upholstery interact to create richness without excess. Terracotta and sand tones evoke the warmth of coastal towns, while deep navy and cobalt accents bring depth and visual balance. The result is a composition that feels grounded yet fluid luxurious but never rigid.

Tilework plays a starring role in Wave’s identity. Handcrafted Moroccan zellige, hand-painted ceramics, and custom-designed floor patterns guide circulation and define zones, introducing movement and a sense of craft to every corner. Each surface invites touch, celebrating imperfection and material authenticity.

Lighting becomes a sculptural language of its own. Fixtures from Incommonwith, Henry Holland, Italamp, and &Tradition illuminate the space in shifting tones, accentuating architectural features and adapting effortlessly from the glow of midday to the intimacy of evening.

Soft layers of fabric add another dimension to the design. Upholstery from Clarke & Clarke, Harlequin, Liberty, and Sanderson brings colour variation and tactile richness, complementing the broader narrative of playful elegance and Mediterranean ease.
