Iconic autos announce collaboration to develop next generation technology.
Jaguar Land Rover and BMW Group announced a collaboration to develop the next generation of electrification technology to support the increasing demand for Electric Drive Units (EDU). Jaguar Land Rover brought the first premium battery electric SUV to market with the 2019 World Car of the Year, the Jaguar I-Pace. The BMW Group has produced several generations of electric drive units since the introduction of the BMW i3 in 2013.
By working together, the two revered automotive companies will experience the advantages of shared research and development as well as production planning and economies of scale from joint procurement across the supply chain. Together, the two groups of experts will engineer EDUs to meet the specific characteristic for their respective range of products. These will be manufactured by each partner in their own production facilities.
