Meet Noora Al Awar, Fatima Al Zaabi and Afnan Amin, Studio d04

Can you let us know about the latest exciting projects that you are working on?

We are currently working on an incredibly exciting project—a secluded private getaway that reimagines traditional design elements through a modern lens. It’s all about weaving timeless patterns and techniques into contemporary spaces, creating an environment that feels both nostalgic and innovative. We can’t wait to share more when the time is right!

Please mention some of your proudest achievements as a firm (Top 3)

1. Being featured on HH Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed’s social media as reputable architects and designers in the region is a tremendous honour. It continues to inspire us, motivates us to strive for excellence, and reminds us of the responsibility we carry.

2. Designing the saddling boxes for JARC under A.R.M. Holding was a particularly fresh and exciting challenge. It allowed us to explore a unique program and address specific needs through innovative and thoughtful design.

3. Lastly, balancing the demands of motherhood while excelling in our profession is an achievement that feels deeply personal and immensely fulfilling.

STUDIO D04

Can you talk about a type of project that you would like to take on in 2025 that would interest you and your team to pursue (dream project that you would like to manifest)?

In 2025, our dream project would be to design a public building that embodies Emirati culture and heritage, reimagined through a contemporary lens. It would be a space where tradition meets innovation, offering an immersive experience for everyone—locals and visitors alike—to connect with and celebrate the richness of Emirati identity. We’d love to curate every detail, from the interiors and furniture to the artwork, collaborating with locally-based designers to showcase the immense talent and passion in this region. For us, this would be more than just a project—it would be a way to give back to our country and community that has always given us everything, creating a lasting legacy that honours and uplifts the culture we hold so dear.

How would you describe your ‘house style’ and design philosophy?

Our design philosophy is deeply rooted in a client-centric approach, where the narrative and vision of each client define the style and direction of our work. We are highly design-oriented, drawing inspiration from our surroundings and cultural heritage, which we reimagine and translate into contemporary forms. For us, it’s about creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also meaningful, and  creating functional spaces that seamlessly blend practicality with luxury, ensuring every design exudes sophistication and purpose.

As this is the power issue, what empowers you and your team?

We draw empowerment from each other and the unique strengths each member of our team brings to the table. As strong women and mothers, we’ve embraced the courage and resilience needed to balance societal expectations with professional success. The unwavering support and visionary leadership of Dubai’s rulers further inspire us, as their dedication to progress motivate us to strive for even greater heights. This drive fuels our work and sets an inspiring example for our team. Together, we pour our passion and creativity into every project, proving that empowerment comes from unity, purpose, and the unwavering belief in what we can achieve.
