Bishop Design reimagines the ‘Theatre’ experience at Vox Cinemas

The design firm creates an immersive experience beyond the screen at Mall of the Emirates

Commissioned to reimagine this cinematic haven, aiming to break away from conventional notions and craft an environment that celebrates motion pictures while embracing contemporary sensibilities, Bishop Design’s innovative design approach marries nostalgia with modernity, creating an immersive experience that captivates visitors from the very first step.

An inviting, dynamic lounge now replaces the traditional mahogany panels, beige upholstery, and white cloth tables. Rich navy hues blend with bold orange accents, infusing the space with energy and excitement, while contemporary lighting and accessories add a distinctive personality. Though the drastic change in the colour palette makes a gallant statement, it’s the use of artwork that truly steals the show. From framed movie posters to a captivating wall mural showcasing celebrated faces of film across different eras, each piece contributes to the space’s artistic allure, creating an ambiance that resonates deeply with visitors.

The transformation extends to each screen, where Bishop Design infused new life into the traditional theatre experience. The spaces now exude modernity and sophistication, significantly improving the atmosphere and fostering a more inviting and enjoyable environment for guests.

The concept transcends the confines of the auditorium and flows into the restrooms, reimagined as pop-art galleries where every corner is full of whimsy, turning a mundane necessity into a memorable part of the movie-going experience. In the ladies’ restroom, green fabrics and bold geometric flooring complement lively orange walls. Modernity intertwines with nostalgia through black nuances and whimsical artworks depicting iconic movie stars like Marilyn Monroe and Brigitte Bardot, paying homage to timeless elegance while celebrating women’s empowerment.

Across the hall, the men’s restroom exudes a distinct charm with its darker palette. Navy hues dominate the men’s restroom across the hall, and artwork featuring distinguished characters and superheroes in unlikely settings add a playful touch.
