Urban Sophistication Meets Natural Materials in a Vancouver Home

Designed by Falken Reynolds, this home radiates both energy and elegance

Located just a short walk from downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park, and the Sea Wall and overlooking Harbour Green Park and the Burrard Inlet, the setting of this home offers tranquil views of the North Shore mountains, making it a unique escape within the urban landscape. The homeowner is a retired entrepreneur with a passion for travel, sought an urban lifestyle to complement her spontaneous nature and allow more freedom to explore. With her son off to university, she transitioned from a large family home in the suburbs to this more compact yet luxurious space, ideal for impromptu getaways.

The home’s interior exudes warmth and sophistication, with a bright, neutral palette enhanced by bold splashes of colour from the homeowner’s eclectic art collection. To maintain balance and avoid overwhelming the space, Falken Reynolds who led the interior design project, selected light and medium-toned woods to introduce richness, while black accents provide a touch of contrast. “The art collection adds so much colour and energy that we deliberately chose materials and finishes that wouldn’t compete with it,” says Chad Falkenberg, co-founder of Falken Reynolds.

The design weaves subtle blues throughout, from the living room rug to kitchen granite highlights and the calming aqua wall in the primary ensuite, evoking the natural beauty of Vancouver’s coastal setting.

The design team carefully curated an eclectic mix of modern furniture and lighting, featuring renowned designers such as Sabine Marcelis, Ingo Maurer, Michael Anastassiades, and Charlotte Perriand. “While most of the furnishings in this home were new, we aimed to create a layered and collected feeling that reflects the homeowner’s well-travelled life,” says Kelly Reynolds, co-founder of Falken Reynolds. The result is a sophisticated yet playful ambiance that feels both curated and lived-in.

In the living room, sculptural Womb and Amedee chairs surround the locally crafted Artemis coffee table by Ben Barber Studio, along with a Parentesi pendant lamp from Flos. The dining room features Beetle chairs by GUBI  paired with a hand-crafted Furcula dining table by IZM, while the chandelier—a Seed 02 pendant by Bec Brittain for Roll & Hill—adds a touch of elegance.

Although many pieces were sourced specifically for this Vancouver home, the homeowner incorporated beloved items from their previous residence into the home, such as a Minotti side table and a custom-made bed in the guest bedroom. The result is a home that feels deeply personal—both modern and timeless, curated and inviting.

This 2,600-square-foot townhouse spans three stories, with two bedrooms, an office, a yoga room, and media room, all connected by a private elevator. Designed to be a sanctuary of warmth and sophistication, this home seamlessly integrates its stunning natural surroundings with the conveniences of city living.
