From 5 – 7 February 2019 Surface Design Show returns to the Business Design Centre in Islington to showcase the best in surface materials for both interior and exterior architecture and design.
The 2019 edition of the show will have a special focus on two areas that have great impact on our daily lives, the workplace and the public realm. Through a series of profiles in the run up to the show and presentations at the show, these two specialist areas of design will be explored from a surface specific point of view, providing engaging insight into the best and latest products, materials and applications that impact working and public realm environments.
Both chosen subject areas have an increasing presence, importance and impact on corporations as well as the individual. Never before have the working and the public realm environments been so heavily scrutinised as they are now. Environmental factors and physical and mental wellbeing have been linked, leading to new expectations concerning aesthetic, acoustic and lighting design in workplaces and in public spaces. Furthermore, some studies have shown links between those companies that do incorporate wellness in their choice of materials, furniture, lighting and their profitability.
Visitors will be able to explore more than 150 exhibitor stands manned by experts in interior and exterior materials for surfaces; installations created especially for the show and the Stone Federation of Great Britain supported Stone Gallery, a showcase of natural stone surfaces.
A packed programme of talks at Surface Design Show 2019 will delve into a variety of discussions around public realm and workplace design. The talks comprise of an Opening Night Live Debate supported by RIBA and NLA, in which industry experts put forward their opinions on a chosen topic of discussion around broad design themes; a fun and very popular PechaKucha evening in which presenters have 20 slides and just 20 seconds to describe each; Surface Spotlight Live a presentation by trend expert Sally Angharad and colour forecasters Colour Hive, to feature the newest and most unique surfaces and materials, and CPD sessions which run throughout the show, enabling the A&D visitors to further their knowledge and expertise in surface material application.
Critical to both workplaces and to public realm spaces, lighting has always been included at Surface Design Show as it is so critical to awakening surfaces and to interior design and architecture. And so, Light School will bring back their arena, Light Talks, for discussion. Supported by the Institution of Lighting Professionals, Light Talks is traditionally packed to the rafters with visitors vying to hear about the latest in lighting technology and design.
