Known in Dubai – and around the globe – for his visionary projects, Italian architect and designer Marco Piva has been invited to the London Design Fair to present his new furniture collection for Rubelli Casa: Cinecitta.
Originally presented at the 2018 Salone del Mobile, the inspiration behind the collection is the world of film, with products linked to names of actors and actresses and bringing to mind iconic figures from our collective imagination; personalities who, despite a costume change, still retain a precise identity.
The fabric, which features crafted detailing and tailoring, are key elements in these new products. Like actors on the set, they ‘dress up’ to interpret contemporary life.
A recurring theme is the coming together and overlapping of materials and textures, the use of marble and metal, wood and lacquer finishes, geometric shapes and slightly slanted vertical lines which streamline each piece.
The collection:
LOREN armchair – SOPHIA pouf, design Marco Piva
Sophia Loren. Italian-style sensuality. They are distinctive in their soft, gentle shape. The metal base brings an elegant and at the same time functional touch, lightening the visual perception of the pieces and making them appear suspended. A graphic mark is engraved on the fabric as its feature, giving it a sense of uniqueness.
LOLLO armchair and 2-seat sofa, design Marco Piva
Gina Lollobrigida. Italian style femininity. The armchair is a seat with simple and sophisticated lines, characterised by symmetrical proportions and the profile which outlines the enveloping shapes of the seat. The fabric, its key feature, serves to make it play various stage roles and use functions, exclusive and contemporary.
The metal at the base raises it from the floor and gives it an ethereal lightness.
LINGOTTO, design Marco Piva
The golden age. The Lingotto (i.e. the ingot) is an iconic shape with a modern interpretation. Covered with Aurum – a Rubelli fabric in pure gold and silk – and embellished by gold plated metal inserts. The richness is such that it creates in itself a precious object.

Distinct personalities yet perfect together. The tradition of the most sophisticated artisan work creates the coming together of the most exclusive materials from Rubelli Casa – metals and Damantio, an exclusive material registered by Rubelli.
Set of three occasional tables GRETA, design Marco Piva
Greta Garbo. Strong expressiveness. Geometric precision, available in three heights. The Greta occasional tables create geometry within geometry from the intersection of the legs which project onto the top, dividing it into three modules coated with a combination of lacquer finishes and Damantio.
RODOLFO Dining Table, design Marco Piva
Rodolfo Valentino. Magnetic appeal. Like twisting prisms which rise upwards, the metal legs of the table feature a change in geometry which streamlines them and supports the monumental nature of the top, creating an elegant textural and colour contrast.
B.B. Chair, design Marco Piva
Brigitte Bardot: Simple and sophisticated yet with character.
The B.B. chair has important technical value, gained from the use of two separate and opposing material volumes. An elegant wooden ‘frame’ – the same used for the legs – works as a support for the seat in fabric which displays details of very high sartorial quality.
ANITA Chair, design Marco Piva
Anita Ekberg: La Dolce Vita. Cushiony and impactful. The Anita chair combines sleek shapes, dictated by the movements of the fabric, with a high technical value which makes it suitable for several uses. The graphic line of the edging is seen as a distinctive element, a division between the forms.
