Where Design Meets Display Excellence

At its slimmest point, the TCL X11L measures just 20 millimetres, thinner than a one-euro coin, and that fact alone tells you this was never meant to read as a television. Switch it off and the illusion completes itself: set to Art Gallery, the screen becomes a rotating collection of paintings, hung exactly where a piece of art would go, except this one changes with your mood instead of asking you to commit to a single image forever. Ambient Mode goes further still, replacing the room’s mood entirely with a coastline, a cabin, a dying fire, sound included, until you genuinely forget which city you’re in.

That’s design doing its job before the screen has anything to prove. TCL calls the underlying idea Wisdom-Luxe, a philosophy that treats restraint as the real luxury, letting technology recede so it can be felt rather than announced. Guided by that principle of “Minimal, Intelligent Beauty,” almost every visible surface here is built to justify itself, not just house a panel.

Flip it around, and the argument keeps going. The rear panel carries a texture TCL calls Starry Sky: countless microcrystalline facets pressed into a matte, bio-based polymer shell, so ambient light scatters unevenly across it like distant starlight rather than bouncing back flat. Industrial designer Chris Lefteri, who worked on the set with TCL’s design team, has likened the effect to a hidden constellation, light and shadow doing quietly on the back what the panel does loudly on the front. Almost nobody in the room will consciously register it, and TCL built it anyway.

The frame is finished in what TCL calls Solar Brown, produced through a gradient anodizing process that grows oriented titanium crystals inside the metal’s own oxide layer, a technique closer to jewellery-making than television manufacturing. The result is a warm, molten-gold-flecked bronze that shifts faintly as you move past it, meant to evoke a star’s corona breaking free. Around the speaker face, the Horizon Array grille carries that logic outward: metal grooves widening from bottom to top like the first band of a sunrise, doubling as acoustic waveguides for the sound underneath.

Underneath all of it sits TCL’s SQD-Mini LED engine, Super Quantum Dot technology paired with a WHVA 2.0 Ultra panel, spread across 20,736 dimming zones on the 98-inch model and reaching the full BT.2020 colour gamut with highlights up to 10,000 nits. Every frame runs through TCL’s TSR AiPQ engine in real time, sound is co-tuned with Bang & Olufsen across twelve speakers, and gamers get a native 144Hz panel climbing to 288Hz, FreeSync Premium Pro, and a dedicated Gamebar.

SQD-Mini LED is fast becoming the assumed baseline for where home entertainment is headed, and a flagship this size was always going to arrive with the numbers to match. Rather than simply delivering impressive specifications, these technologies work together to create a viewing experience defined by exceptional brightness, colour precision, contrast and responsiveness, showcasing how far premium display engineering has evolved.

What’s more telling is that the craftsmanship holds up once the spec sheet closes. Around 65% of the X11L’s plastic is recycled, its aluminium content is fully recycled, and the surface is left paint-free by design, so the material itself does the visual work rather than a coating layered over it. That’s the same design language that treats technology as something to be trusted, not dressed up.

It is, in the end, a strange kind of furniture, spending half its life pretending to be art and the other half proving it was never modest at all. The Starry Sky on its back can’t be seen while the paintings rotate on its front, and Solar Brown shifts depending on where you’re sitting, which rather defeats the idea that a spec sheet could ever capture it. Walking into the room, you forget for a second you’re actually looking at a TV.

The X11L doesn’t pick a lane: a TV that disappears into your décor, or one that commands the room outright. It brings beautiful design and uncompromising performance together in a way that makes the distinction feel unnecessary.
