]]> The winner of the 11th edition of the Van Cleef & Arpels Middle East Emergent Designer Prize in partnership with Tashkeel, this light installation inspired by Gulf traditions reimagines the Bedouin practice of lighting fires to welcome travellers with warmth, shelter, and guidance. At the heart of the piece is cardamom, a nod to the traditional offering of Arabic coffee spiced with hail (cardamom). Discarded husks are repurposed into bioplastic sheets, highlighting a commitment to sustainability. Activated by proximity, the lamp’s glow intensifies as someone approaches – a poetic gesture of hospitality.

]]> Designed by Isidro Ferrer, these life-size models are made with a classic woodcarving technique called vareta, in collaboration with master Fallas artisan Manolo Martin. The Fallas artisan is unique to Valencia, Spain, and vareta is a traditional skill in which fine wooden strips are used to reproduce the shape
(or ‘skin’) of the object they reflect. Re-engineering the concept of what a lamp can be through its hummingbird-like shape, wooden plumage and hanging globes of light, the finish of each piece is different owing to the raw materials used.
